I currently work in mental health services within the UK. As well as being interested in mental health, I am also interested in family and local history. I created this blog to help me to explore the history of mental health and mental health services in the UK. I hope to emphasise the human side of these issues, by highlighting individual stories.

Terms such as “lunacy” and “madhouse” are used for historical accuracy, as they would have been at the time. These phrases are not intended to offend.

I welcome your comments and feedback and would love you to share your own stories.  However, please respect other people’s confidentiality by keeping personal information about living people anonymous.
